The Norwich City branch recruitment drive held from Mon 1 to Thurs 4 December has been hailed a success at raising awareness of the branch and recruiting new members. Successes from the week include:

The prize draw entry forms included questions for both members and non-members to help us gain a useful insight into how you feel about your local branch. The questions have also been collated and analysed, and a brief summary of the feedback can be seen below. This information will be used to help make our communications and branch activities more effective in the future. We are please to see that a massive 97% of you read our e-mail bulletins, as we try to make sure you are always kept well informed of the latest news.

We want your 'Why I Joined Unison' stories! This section on our website is there to help inform non-members and new staff of the reasons why our members joined, and to encourage them to do the same.  In addition, we would like you to share with potential members the benefits that you have received from being a Unison member since you joined. Entries only need to be a couple of paragraphs - to submit yours, just e-mail it to unison@norwich.gov.uk.

On Sunday December 7th, two of our branch members took part in the first Norwich Santa Run at Eaton Park in aid of the Radio Broadland Kids charity.

We live, as they say, in interesting times. We have just witnessed blind panic on the world stock markets, collapses of major banks and insurance institutions, whole economies on the brink of bankruptcy. How this will all pan out nobody knows (I’ve always liked the quote, though I’m not sure who it’s from, that “economic forecasting is not a respectable human activity”), but as we head into recession, job losses and home repossessions are becoming an altogether more regular occurrence.

Norfolk Pension Fund has issued a leaflet assuring members that your Local Government Pension Scheme pension is secure. The leaflet explains this is because your benefits are based on membership and final pay, and not affected by the value of the fund which rises and falls with the investment markets.
