The Norwich City Unison branch are hosting a special event from Campaign for Human Rights in the Philippines, 'Enforced Disappearances: Philippines'. The event will take place in the council chamber, City Hall from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Thursday 14 October. All members are welcome to come along to find out more about the Campaign for Human Rights in the Philippines and hear the stories of the special guest speakers, including:

The Norwich City Unison branch is running a competition for its members to win a prize of 2 tickets for 'The Big Three', a lecture by mountaineer Doug Scott at the Norwich Playhouse on Wednesday 16 June (7.30pm).    Two sets of 2 tickets are available.

The ballot has opened for the election of Unison’s general secretary and ballot papers have been sent to members’ home addresses. The ballot closes on Friday 11 June, with the result announced on 22 June. If you don't receive a ballot paper or have another query, please contact our ballot helpline on 0845 355 0845. There's no bigger role in Unison than that of general secretary. It's one of the most high-profile jobs in the country - leader of the biggest trade union in the UK and the voice of more than 1.3 million public service workers. There will be an election for the general secretary this spring with a ballot starting on 17 May and ending on 11 June. The result of the election will be announced on 22 June. The Norwich City Branch agreed to nominate the incumbent general secretary, Dave Prentis, at the annual general meeting last month.

The Annual General Meeting of the Norwich City Unison branch was held on Wednesday 17 March 2010, with around 50 members in attendance. Please see a brief summary of the meeting below. Item 1 & 2: The chairperson made opening remarks and the minutes of the 2009 AGM were agreed. Item 3: The revised and updated branch rules were agreed – these can be seen at the bottom of this page.

Norwich City Council is under a statutory duty to implement a unitary council for Norwich starting on 1 April 2011, having received  parliamentary approval for the plans, Regardless of the announcement, the Norwich City Unison branch’s aim remains the same – to protect jobs and services. We have been through a lot of change recently, and this will mean more. We understand any worry or concern that members may be feeling but can reassure you that the branch is engaged in the process and will offer support as needed throughout.
