Demonstration - Norfolk Coalition Against the Cuts

Many thanks to all Norwich City UNISON branch members that joined over 2000 other demonstrators at Saturday's march, organised by Norfolk Coalition Against the Cuts.

On Saturday 4 December 2010, over 2000 activists, demonstrators and representatives of many Norfolk organisations turned out to show their opposition to the cuts.

Demonstrators were highlighting the vast and wide-ranging impact that cuts will have on a range of vital public services, including lollipop ladies, the fire service, local government services and education, and the resulting impact on vulnerable and disabled people.

The march left from Chapelfield Gardens and returned via a route through Theatre Street, Brigg Street, Hay Hill and Bethel Street.  The parade of protesters stretched for over 250 metres.

Speakers at the rally in the gardens afterwards included representatives from UNISON, the National Union of Teachers, the Norfolk Coalition of Disabled People, the Green Party, the Stop the War Coalition, the Guardian blog site, the National Union of Students, the Norwich Labour Party, the Communication Workers Union, the Right to Work Campaign and student unions of Cambridge University and Norwich University College of the Arts.
