Branch Affiliations

Members may not be aware that for many years the Norwich City Unison branch has affiliated itself to a number of external organisations.  These are causes that Unison supports and also those that the local branch has chosen to contribute towards, both financially and otherwise.

The full list of affiliations is listed below, along with descriptions and links to organisation websites for more information.

  • Norwich - El Viecho Link:  The official civic twinning organisation linking Norwich and Norfolk with the City and Municipality of El Viejo in Nicaragua, Central America.  Link to page on Norwich City Council website.
  • Labour Research Department:  Co-operates with Labour, Socialist and Co-operative movements in promoting and carrying out research into problems of importance to the labour, supplying valuable information, and issuing publications.  www.lrd.org.uk
  • Institute of Employment Rights:  An independent organisation in the field of labour law, producing a wide variety of publications to stimulate debate and analysis about employment law policies and legal developments in industrial relations.  www.ier.org.uk
  • Free Tibet Campaign:  Independent organisation standing for the rights of Tibetans and campaigning for an end to Chinese occupation of Tibet and for the fundamental human rights of Tibetans to be respected, by generating support through public education.  www.freetibet.org
  • Defend Council Housing:  Fights against the privatisation of council housing and for direct investment.   www.defendcouncilhousing.org.uk
  • Cuba Solidarity Campaign:  The British campaign for the defence of Cuba and its peoples' right to self-determination and national sovereignty.  www.cuba-solidarity.org.uk
  • Justice for Columbia:  British organisation that campaigns for human rights, workers' rights and the search for peace and justice in Columbia.  www.justiceforcolumbia.org
  • Trade Union Friends of Searchlight:  A magazine opposing racism and fascism in Britain and abroad. It was founded in 1962 and is supported by funding from Trade Unions.  www.searchlightmagazine.com
  • ACTSA (Action for South Africa):  Campaigning with the people of South Africa for the progression of justice, democracy and development in the region.  Successor organisation to the Anti Apartheid Movement. www.actsa.org
  • Amnesty International:  Standing up for humanity and human rights, with the purpose of protecting individuals wherever justice, fairness, freedom and truth are denied. www.amnesty.org.uk 
  • Learning at Work Day:  Annual event starting in 2008 to promote lifelong learning to all employees of Norwich City Council.
  • Eastern Region Third World Fund:  Aims are to promote the alleviation of poverty amongst communities of the third world by providing aid for the provision and development of education facilities, clinics and other health facilities, the supply and purification of water, the means of production of food stuffs, shelter and other facilities.
